Assam CM distributes Rs 161 crore worth of bicycles to 3.7 lakh students

Guwahati, 13th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated his commitment to improving the quality of education in the state, emphasizing that progress and development depend on enhancing the ease of living and creating an ecosystem that allows children to access quality education.

Under his leadership, Assam has undertaken significant education reforms, including revamping over 4,000 schools and filling teaching vacancies. The state is also equipping students with bicycles, computers, and two-wheelers to facilitate their educational journey.

Chief Minister Sarma and state education officials recently distributed bicycles valued at Rs 161 crore to 3.7 lakh meritorious 9th standard students in public schools. Notably, 56% of the beneficiaries of this initiative are girls, demonstrating the government’s dedication to gender equity and empowering young women.

During the distribution event, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his vision for creating an educational ecosystem where every child has equal opportunities to excel. This initiative aims to enable Assam’s youth to focus on their education without the hindrance of long, tiring commutes.
