Assam CM Emphasizes Rhino Conservation on World Rhino Day

Guwahati, 22nd September: On World Rhino Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significance of rhinos in the state’s rich biodiversity. He expressed that rhinos are cherished members of Assam’s fauna and are synonymous with the state’s identity.

The Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to protecting rhinos, stating that the government has made consistent efforts to prevent poaching, resulting in zero poaching cases of rhinos in the state for the first time.

World Rhino Day, observed on September 22, aims to raise awareness about various rhinoceros species worldwide and the threats they face. It brings together governments, NGOs, conservationists, and individuals to work towards eliminating poaching and preserving endangered rhinoceros species, with a special focus on the one-horned rhino, which is a source of pride for Assam.
