Assam CM: Expecting 1000 Congress Delegates to Join BJP Soon
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that he anticipates that 1,000 Congress delegates who supported Shashi Tharoor in the most recent election for party president will soon defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
CM Sarma said that the 1000 delegates who supported Shashi Tharoor are the “sole democratic people in Congress.”
The Assam chief minister said, “In Congress’ so called internal elections, the result was known & declared even before counting of votes. The only democratic people in Congress were the 1,000 delegates who showed courage by voting for Shashi Tharoor. I expect them to join BJP soon.”
Shashi Tharoor responded to Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remarks by saying that individuals who lack the courage to fight would be lured to join the BJP.
According to news agency ANI, Tharoor stated that “those who display guts would never join the BJP; it is those who do not have the courage to battle who might be enticed to do so.”
Kharge easily defeated Tharoor to become the first non-Gandhi Congress president in 24 years. Kharge received 7,897 votes to Tharoor’s 1,072 in the presidential election on October 17. Approximately 9,500 party delegates participated in the election.
