Assam CM: Govt Committed to Preserve Cultural Heritage of All Ethnic Groups
Guwahati: The Assam government is dedicated to protecting the cultural heritage of all the state’s indigenous communities on Friday at the Jonbeel Mela, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
At the public session of the three-day “Jonbeel Mela,” a distinctive fair of the Tiwa community where barter exchange of goods takes place, he declared that the BJP government is “very sensitive” to the preservation and promotion of the language, culture, and traditions of all ethnic groups in Assam.
“We are committed to do all that is required to protect the culture of all tribes, including the Tiwas,” Sarma said.
In addition to allocating 20 bighas of land for its organisation, the chief minister gave the fair’s organisers the assurance that all available financial aid would be supplied to maintain the event’s distinctive features.
18 ceremonial rulers of the Tiwa Kingdom received checks for royal subsistence grants totaling Rs 1.25 million each from Sarma. A local celebration known as the “Jonbeel Mela,” which is often held the Thursday following “Bhogali Bihu,” is thought to have started in the 14th century.
