Assam CM Hails Rhinos as State’s Pride on World Rhino Day
Guwahati, September 22: In a powerful tribute to Assam’s rich wildlife, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the one-horned rhinoceros as the state’s “pride and the crown jewel of its biodiversity” on the occasion of World Rhino Day. Sarma took to social media to highlight Assam’s deep connection with its rhino population, stating, “Rhinos are synonymous with the identity of Assam.”
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to protect and expand rhino habitats, underscoring the significance of conservation initiatives undertaken since he assumed office. His message reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to preserving these iconic animals, which are integral to Assam’s heritage.
Wildlife expert Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar also praised Assam’s conservation strides, noting a significant reduction in poaching in recent years. He credited the state’s robust anti-poaching policies and modernized protection forces with the success. Dr. Talukdar further emphasized that continuous efforts are essential to secure the future of the endangered species for generations to come.
