Assam CM Highlights State’s Transformation with Crackdown on Crime and Corruption
Guwahati, 18th June: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted significant strides in Assam’s safety and governance landscape over the past three years, attributing these improvements to robust crackdowns on various criminal activities.
Underlining the state’s transformation, CM Sarma emphasized efforts targeting drugs, corruption, and illegal infiltrations, which have bolstered Assam’s security apparatus. Since May 2021 alone, Assam Police has apprehended 14,593 traffickers and initiated 8,855 cases, resulting in substantial drug seizures.
The CM also lauded Assam’s zero-tolerance policy, noting 182 trap cases leading to 224 arrests, including 206 public servants involved in corrupt practices, with a recovery of Rs 6 crore. Additionally, operations by the Special Task Force have successfully addressed illegal infiltration, counterfeit currency, gold smuggling, and wildlife crimes, resulting in numerous arrests.
In a social media update, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed, “In the last 3 years, every effort has been made to make Assam a safe state for all citizens. From crackdowns on drugs and child marriage to reducing crimes against women and corruption, we are moving ahead in the right direction.”
These measures underscore Assam’s commitment to enhancing public safety and governance, reflecting ongoing initiatives aimed at securing the well-being of its residents.
