Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Assures Complete Resolution of Border Disputes with Arunachal Pradesh
Guwahati: During his visit to Arunachal Pradesh for the 59th central celebration of the Mopin Festival in Aalo, West Siang district, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the long-standing border disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh would be completely resolved under the current leadership of both states.
“Under the present dispensation in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the border disputes between the two states will be resolved completely,” CM Sarma declared.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sarma called the Mopin Festival a grand celebration of Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural richness, highlighting its significance in reaffirming people’s bond with the land. The Galo tribe’s harvest festival, dedicated to Goddess Mopin Ane, was described by the CM as a vibrant embodiment of prosperity, unity, and gratitude towards nature.
The event featured the traditional Popir dance performed by women in elegant white attire, accompanied by folk music and community feasting. Sarma lauded such practices for preserving tribal culture and reinforcing social ties across generations.
He praised Arunachal Pradesh as “a living, breathing canvas of cultural magnificence,” where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously, and urged all to cherish India’s extraordinary diversity.
Reflecting on the role of festivals in preserving identity, he said:
“The traditions of songs, dances, and rituals are not just symbols of identity; they are the essence of cultural and spiritual existence, passed down through generations.”
Sarma emphasized the region’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating that the Northeast is undergoing a historic transformation, shedding its image of neglect and isolation.
He also celebrated the friendship between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, invoking the legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, who shared a deep emotional connection with Arunachal. In honour of the legendary singer’s bond with the state, Sarma announced that the centenary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth in 2026 would be held in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The celebration of Mopin thus became not just a cultural festivity but a powerful symbol of interstate unity, cultural pride, and a shared vision for the future of Northeast India.
