Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Commends Security Forces for Preventing Infiltration at Bangladesh Border
Karimganj– Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on October 20 that state security forces apprehended a Bangladeshi infiltrator, identified as Mohibulla, near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Karimganj.
In a swift operation involving the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), the individual was immediately repatriated to Bangladesh.
Chief Minister Sarma praised the vigilance of the security personnel, stating, “Our forces are alert 24/7 to thwart all infiltration attempts along the border.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding Assam’s borders and maintaining national security.
This follows a similar incident on October 19, when another Bangladeshi national, identified as Md. Arif, was caught attempting to cross the border illegally in Karimganj.
He was also swiftly repatriated, with the Chief Minister commending the Assam Police for their alertness and swift action. In a statement on social media, Sarma remarked, “Our personnel are fully alert to thwart such infiltration attempts in the Indo-Bangladesh border.”
The crackdown on infiltration has intensified in recent months. On *September 23, Assam Police apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals—Sohil Hawladar, Shah Alam, Sourab Hawladar, and Md Kawsar—attempting to cross the border in Karimganj.
They were taken into custody and sent back as part of Assam’s enhanced border security measures. Chief Minister Sarma lauded the operation as another successful pushback of illegal infiltrators.
In a separate instance on September 22, Assam Police and BSF personnel arrested two more Bangladeshi nationals in individual operations along the border, further demonstrating the state’s commitment to cracking down on illegal crossings.
These recent arrests highlight the ongoing challenges Assam faces at its international border, with Chief Minister Sarma reinforcing the need for constant vigilance by security forces to prevent illegal infiltration and protect national sovereignty.
