Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Conveys Condolences After Tragic Bus Accident in Dergaon

Guwahati, 3rd Jan: Expressing deep anguish, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended condolences to the families affected by the tragic bus accident in Dergaon.

In a tweet, Sarma conveyed his sympathy for the lives lost and assured that the local administration is providing essential assistance to the injured during this challenging time.

“The local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured in this difficult hour. Prayers for their swift recovery.” tweets Assam CM.

The accident, which occurred on the under-construction national highway near Balijan, Golaghat district, involved a collision between a bus carrying 45 picnic party passengers and a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least 12 people lost their lives, including five women and a minor boy.

The bus was en route from Kamarbandha to Tinsukia’s Tilinga Temple and Dibrugarh’s Bogibeel for a New Year picnic.

As investigations continue to determine the cause of the accident, the chief minister highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance road safety on the national highway.

The tragic incident underscores the need for continued vigilance and improvements in infrastructure to prevent such accidents in the future.
