Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Defends Union Budget, Criticizes Opposition’s Stance

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly defended the Union Budget 2025, highlighting its potential benefits for the middle class and the country’s overall economic growth, while taking aim at the opposition’s criticism.

Sarma emphasized the significance of tax exemptions for individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh annually, noting that this would allow for increased savings that could subsequently circulate in the market. “When tax savings enter the market, retailers will benefit, ultimately boosting the economy,” he stated.

In his address, Sarma also took a critical stance towards the opposition, accusing them of undermining states such as Assam, Bihar, and Delhi. He remarked, “Bihar has consistently ranked at the bottom in terms of development. The state’s economic potential has significantly declined, yet its people contribute the most to the nation’s progress. If Bihar has gained from this budget, the Congress should welcome it. Instead, their stance appears anti-Bihar.”

Sarma’s comments come amidst growing political debates and differing perspectives on the budget, with the opposition alleging that the government favors certain states over others and overlooks broader economic concerns.
