Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Engages Industry Leaders During Mumbai Visit

Guwahati: On the second day of his Mumbai tour, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified his efforts to attract investments for the state by meeting with prominent business leaders and inviting them to the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit scheduled for February 25-26, 2025, in Guwahati.

In a key meeting, Sarma expressed gratitude to Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and his son Neville Tata for their contributions to Assam and extended an invitation to the summit. Sarma emphasized the state’s commitment to fostering industrial growth and encouraged further collaboration with the Trusts.

The Chief Minister also had a productive luncheon meeting with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra at the Gateway Building in Mumbai. Highlighting Mahindra’s passion for industrialization, Sarma invited the group to partner with the Assam government in accelerating the state’s industrial development. Mahindra was also formally invited to the summit, where Sarma underscored the state’s ambition to become a hub for investment and infrastructure.

Sarma met with L&T CEO S.N. Subramanyam to discuss Assam’s infrastructure development initiatives. With several high-value projects already underway, Sarma positioned Assam as a magnet for infrastructure companies and urged L&T to adopt sustainable and cutting-edge technologies in their projects in the state.

Welspun Group Chairman BK Goenka also engaged with Sarma during the visit. Sarma highlighted the immense potential for heavy industries and textiles in Assam and encouraged Welspun to explore investment opportunities.

The Chief Minister’s itinerary included a meeting with HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan. Sarma elaborated on Assam’s efforts to formalize its economy, particularly through Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), and highlighted opportunities for the banking sector in the state. Jagdishan was also invited to participate in the summit to explore further collaborations.

In discussions with Hindustan Unilever executives Rohit Jawa, Dev Bajpai, and Yogesh Mishra, Sarma emphasized the potential for expanding Assam’s tea industry and invited the group to deepen their investments in the state. Similarly, Luxmi Tea MD Rudra Chatterjee was encouraged to participate in the summit to explore new ventures in Assam’s tea sector.

The Chief Minister also met Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Online, to discuss opportunities in infrastructure, power, and defense sectors. Sarma assured support for the Adani Group’s expansion plans in Assam and emphasized the state’s readiness to address their needs.

Sarma’s proactive engagement with industry leaders is part of Assam’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading destination for investment, with a focus on sectors like infrastructure, heavy industries, banking, and tea. His Mumbai tour reflects the state government’s commitment to driving economic growth and fostering partnerships with India’s top corporate players.
