Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Engages with Railway Minister Following Kanchanjungha Express Accident
Guwahati, 17th June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that he has spoken with the Railway Minister after a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound 13174 Kanchanjungha Express near New Jalpaiguri station. Recognizing that the train passes through Assam, CM Sarma noted the likelihood of numerous Assam passengers on board.
CM Sarma assured that his government is in constant communication with railway authorities, awaiting detailed information to take necessary actions. Addressing reporters, he emphasized the significant number of Assam passengers due to the train’s route from Tripura through Assam.
Expressing concern for the affected passengers, CM Sarma stated, “I have spoken to the railway minister regarding the accident. The train was from Tripura and passes through Assam. There will be many passengers from Assam. We remain concerned about the passengers but we are waiting for details. My Chief Secretary is in constant talks with railway authority. Whatever needs to be done will be done…we need to get clarity from railway department.”
Earlier, in a social media post, CM Sarma expressed his condolences, writing, “The tragic train collision between the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train is extremely unfortunate. My heart goes out to the families of those who have lost their lives, and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.”
