Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Expresses Commitment to Resolving Border Disputes with Meghalaya

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resolving the six pending border disputes with Meghalaya, though he refrained from providing a specific timeline. He emphasized that these disputes involve deep public sentiment on both sides, making the resolution process more complex.

During a discussion, Sarma stated, “From Assam’s side, we are eager to resolve the pending disputes. Out of six, three can be settled anytime. However, Meghalaya seems to prefer resolving all six together. We are continuously working on it, and I am confident that a resolution will be reached.”

The Survey of India is currently overseeing the demarcation process, with progress being made steadily. Although a date for the next round of talks has not been finalized, Sarma assured that the process is ongoing and remains optimistic about a resolution “sooner rather than later.”

As both states move forward in their efforts to settle the long-standing border disputes, the people of Meghalaya are eagerly awaiting the next phase of discussions, hoping for a peaceful and final resolution.
