Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Highlights Increased Infiltration Amid Bangladesh’s Financial Crisis
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed serious concerns over a noticeable rise in infiltration attempts by Bangladeshi nationals into India, attributing the trend to Bangladesh’s worsening economic crisis.
“Every day, 10 to 20 Bangladeshi nationals are trying to cross into India due to the economic challenges in their country. We are implementing strict measures to curb such infiltration,” CM Sarma stated.
Bangladesh is grappling with a severe economic downturn, characterized by a foreign exchange crisis and soaring inflation. These challenges are reportedly driving individuals to seek refuge and better opportunities across the border into India.
In response, the Assam government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening border security to address the issue effectively. The state administration is taking a vigilant approach to safeguarding Assam’s sovereignty and ensuring that its borders remain secure from external pressures.
The development comes as a reminder of the interconnected challenges of regional stability and economic hardships, highlighting the need for coordinated measures to address both border security and the underlying issues fueling migration.
