Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Highlights State’s Tourism Potential in Talks with Japanese Ministers
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Furukawa Yasushi, on January 23, as part of his official visit to Japan.
The discussions focused on promoting Assam’s tourism potential and strengthening ties between the northeastern state and Japan.
During the meeting, CM Sarma showcased Assam’s “untapped tourism potential,” highlighting destinations such as the historic Charaideo Moidams, the iconic Kaziranga National Park, the state’s lush tea gardens, and its scenic golf courses.
He emphasized the variety of unique itineraries Assam can offer to Japanese travelers, aiming to position the state as a prime destination for international tourism.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sarma expressed optimism about the collaboration. “It was an honour to meet H.E. Mr. Furukawa Yasushi, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism today… From Charaideo Moidams to Kaziranga to our Bagans and Golf courses, I highlighted Assam’s untapped tourism potential and the diverse itineraries we can offer to Japanese visitors,” he wrote.
In addition to his meeting with Furukawa Yasushi, Sarma also held discussions with Japan’s State Minister of Justice, Komura Masahiro. He outlined Assam’s ambitious plans to establish an industrial park aimed at attracting Japanese businesses, reflecting the state government’s broader strategy to enhance economic cooperation and drive industrial growth.
The series of high-level engagements underscores Assam’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Japan, leveraging shared values and cultural connections to foster mutual prosperity.
By promoting tourism and creating investment opportunities, the state seeks to strengthen its role as a bridge between India and Japan.
