Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Chief Minister’s Cup Inter Tea Garden Football Tournament to Boost Football Talent in Tea Tribes’ Community

Guwahati, 1st December: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Cup Inter Tea Garden Football Tournament in Tinsukia, aiming to foster sportsmanship and nurture young football talent within the Tea Tribes’ community in the state.

The tournament, organized by the Directorate for Welfare of Tea & Ex-Tea Garden Tribes in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare, seeks to identify and groom young football talents from the tea garden community, elevating them to district, state, or national-level standards.

To encourage broad participation, 16-20 zones have been established, each hosting inter-tea garden matches. The subsequent formation of Zonal teams, comprising players from the tea garden level teams, is a pivotal aspect of the initiative.

The Zonal committees, led by an MLA nominated by the Chairman, SLAC, with the Deputy Commissioner of the zonal headquarters as Convener and the District Sports Officer as Member Secretary, ensure the smooth execution of the tournament. The Chief Minister’s Cup aims to make significant strides in developing football talent and promoting a culture of sports within the Tea Tribes’ community.
