Guwahati, September 4, 2024 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the MRF (Material Recovery Facility) and Waste to Compost Plant in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday, a significant step towards making North Lakhimpur city clean and garbage-free. The facility, constructed under the North Lakhimpur Municipal Corporation at a cost of ₹5.75 crore, is designed to ensure the scientific disposal of waste. With a daily capacity of 100 metric tons, the plant will efficiently process and recycle waste, converting organic material into compost for agricultural use.
The inauguration is part of CM Sarma’s four-day tour of five districts, including Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Bishwanath, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia. During his visit to Lakhimpur, the Chief Minister also reviewed the Urban Forest and Urban Retreat Zone project. This 5.5-acre development will feature indigenous trees, public amenities, and recreational facilities.
Additionally, CM Sarma visited the under-construction ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) and the Lakhimpur Stadium construction site, assessing progress and providing essential guidance to ensure timely completion.
