Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Invites Jharkhand Journalists to Witness Land Intrusion Issues

Northeast Desk, 2nd August: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended an invitation to journalists from Jharkhand to visit Assam and gain a first-hand understanding of the land intrusion issues faced by residents of the state. The BJP’s co-incharge of the Jharkhand election made the announcement during his two-day visit to Jharkhand.

Sarma explained that the journalists’ visit would highlight the methods intruders use to force people to vacate their villages. “You will understand how they enter villages and force Hindus to vacate. They either use money or sacrifice cows making them leave. This is a pattern,” he stated.

Drawing parallels between Assam and Jharkhand, Sarma remarked, “I saw the same pattern of Assam in Pakur,” suggesting that similar tactics are employed in both regions.

Despite the challenges, Sarma expressed confidence in Jharkhand’s ability to address the issue, citing the state’s facilities and policies. “If our government comes to power, we will create many endeavours,” he added.

Addressing the broader issue of stopping the influx of intruders, Sarma noted that this responsibility would fall on the Centre, provided there are no intruders already inside the state. “We would be very happy if this responsibility is given to the Centre,” he stated.

In a significant gesture, Sarma assured that he would praise Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren if his government cooperated in addressing the intrusion issue. “If the Jharkhand government writes to us that it is the responsibility of the Centre to drive out intruders from the state and that the state government will cooperate, I would call Hemant Soren a hero,” Sarma concluded.

These comments highlight the ongoing concerns about land intrusion in Assam and the potential for collaborative efforts between state and central governments to address the issue.
