Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Launches ‘Nijut Moina’ Scheme to Boost Women’s Education
Guwahati, 12th June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled an innovative educational scheme, “Nijut Moina,” aimed at encouraging women to continue their education. The initiative follows the successful distribution of scooters to students securing first division in HSLC, which Sarma claims significantly boosted their academic performance.
During a press conference on Wednesday, June 12, Sarma highlighted the positive impact of the scooter distribution program, noting an increased trend in first division achievements among girl students. He expressed confidence that the new scheme would similarly enhance the gross enrollment ratio in higher education for women.
The “Nijut Moina” scheme is projected to require an annual budget of approximately Rs 300-350 crore initially. However, Sarma indicated that this amount could escalate to Rs 1,500 crore per year as more students participate in the program.
Under the new scheme, girl students who previously received scooters for their academic achievements will not receive additional monetary aid, given that each scooter costs around Rs 70,000. However, students have the option to forgo the scooter in favor of monetary assistance instead.
The Assam government continues to prioritize educational initiatives, aiming to provide robust support for women pursuing higher education.
