Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Launches ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ Scheme For Indigenous Weavers

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched the “Swanirbhar Naari” scheme, which will give local weavers in Guwahati more control.

The state government will buy handloom products directly from local weavers via a web platform under the plan

CM Sarma tweeted, “Happy to launch ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ a scheme to empower our indigenous weavers. Govt will procure handloom items directly from them through an online portal.”

According to him, the programme will contribute in maintaining the state’s rich handloom and textile traditions.

“I am convinced that this scheme would help maintain our tradition of handlooms and textiles by providing assured income to our weavers,” the Assam chief minister remarked.

CM Sarma also spoke at the occasion and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his love of the Assamese “gamosa.” He urged the department of handlooms and textiles to raise awareness of it.

“PM Narendra Modi’s love for Assamese gamosa has made it known far and wide. Taking advantage of the favourable ecosystem, I urge Handloom and Textile Dept to generate more awareness on gamosa. I also urge all concerned to procure handloom-made gamosa only,” he wrote on Twitter.
