Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyr’s Day

Guwahati, 30th January: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a moment of reflection on Martyr’s Day to honor Mahatma Gandhi’s memory, commemorating the Father of the Nation’s sacrifice for India’s freedom. Sarma, expressing respect, shared a poignant message on his microblogging site, X, stating, “Stopped by for a moment of silence to remember Pujya Bapu on his punyatithi at Janata Bhawan.”

Mahatma Gandhi, a champion of peace, played a crucial role in India’s independence struggle through non-violent means. On January 30, 1948, the nation lost Gandhi to an assassin’s bullets during an evening prayer at Birla Bhavan, Delhi.

As citizens across the country pay tribute on Mahatma Gandhi Punyatithi, commemorating his passing, his legacy endures globally, promoting peace and non-violence. Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2 is celebrated as The International Day of Non-violence, recognized by the United Nations General Assembly. His death anniversary is observed as the School Day of Nonviolence and Peace, dedicated to educating young minds on peaceful conflict resolution.
