Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma: PM KISAN Receives Rs 487.38 Cr, Fasal Bima Yojana Rs 234.98 Cr in 2023-24

Guwahati, 18th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the significant expansion of the government’s PM Kisan and Fasal Bima Yojana programs in the state, demonstrating a strong commitment to pro-farmer initiatives.

In a recent post on microblogging site X, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s proactive measures to support farmers, stating, “Taking pro-farmer steps, we have increased our spending to enhance agricultural productivity. PM Kisan and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana beneficiaries in Assam have increased multifold in the past few years.”

The Agriculture Department in the state has witnessed a substantial increase in spending aimed at boosting productivity, with Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) expenditure rising by 45% in the fiscal year 2023-24 compared to the previous fiscal year.

Notably, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) initiative has disbursed a significant amount of Rs 487.38 Crores, benefiting an impressive 12.16 lakh farmers in the November installment of 2023.

Furthermore, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has emerged as a crucial support system for farmers, with crop insurance claims totaling Rs 234.98 Crores in the ongoing fiscal year 2023-24. During this period, the scheme has benefited 2.82 lakh farmers, with farmer enrollment witnessing a remarkable surge of 164% during the Kharif season of 2023.

The remarkable growth in farmer welfare initiatives underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting agricultural communities and ensuring their prosperity.
