Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Predicts End of Hemant Soren’s Tenure Ahead of Union Home Minister’s Visit to Santal

Guwahati, 20th September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Santal today, signaling a significant political movement in Jharkhand. Sarma expressed confidence that the ongoing Parivartan Yatra will lead to the end of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s tenure, predicting a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) victory in the upcoming assembly elections.

In a sharp critique of Soren, Sarma accused him of favoring the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) while showing disdain for BJP leaders like Amit Shah. This followed a meeting between Soren and a delegation of IUML leaders, which included party MPs ET Mohammed Basheer, Haris Beeran, and MLA Mohammad Bashir, described as a “courtesy meeting” by the Chief Minister’s Office.

Sarma, who is also BJP’s co-in-charge of the Jharkhand assembly elections, took a jibe at Soren’s warm reception of IUML leaders, referencing the Muslim League’s historic ties to Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He accused Soren of welcoming these leaders while opposing BJP visits to the state.

The Jharkhand government had earlier urged the Election Commission to issue an advisory to Amit Shah, Sarma, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, accusing them of inciting communal tensions for political gain ahead of the elections.
