Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Strengthens India-Singapore Ties, Discusses Key Collaborations
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his two-day visit to Singapore, met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on February 11, reinforcing Assam’s role as a key pillar in the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Their discussions focused on ongoing collaborative projects and expanding cooperation in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology. CM Sarma fondly recalled President Shanmugaratnam’s visit to Assam in 2022, emphasizing the strong ties between the two regions.
Taking to his official X handle, CM Sarma expressed gratitude for Singapore’s partnership in the ‘Advantage Assam 2’ initiative, a key platform for attracting global investments to the state.
“We deeply appreciate Singapore’s partnership in #AdvantageAssam2 and look forward to strengthening our collaboration in semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology,” he wrote.
During his visit, CM Sarma also reviewed Surbana Jurong’s ongoing projects in Assam, engaging with its official Low Cher Ek and his team. He highlighted Assam’s vision for urban transformation, seeking to leverage Singapore’s town planning expertise to develop future cities and industrial parks for improved living standards.
“We seek to leverage Singapore’s town planning expertise to build Assam’s future cities and industrial parks and enhance the #EaseofLiving of our people,” he stated.
Earlier, the Assam CM held discussions with leaders from the semiconductor industry, emphasizing its importance in India-Singapore cooperation. He extended an invitation for industry leaders to collaborate in Assam’s upcoming Electronic City in Jagiroad.
“I have invited them to partner with us at Assam’s upcoming #ElectronicCity in Jagiroad. Grateful to the leaders from ASMPT, AEM, Besi, Temasek, Silicon Box, Nitto Denko Corp, Heller Industries, and Meinhardt Group for their participation in today’s meeting. Excited to build on this momentum and drive forward,” CM Sarma tweeted.
His visit marks a significant step toward boosting Assam’s global economic footprint, strengthening ties with Singapore, and advancing Assam’s industrial and technological ambitions.
