Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Targets Drug Dealers After Police Destroy ₹27.2 Crore Poppy Cultivation
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on drug traffickers after Goalpara police destroyed 170 bighas of poppy cultivation worth ₹27.20 crore in January. The crackdown, conducted in the Char areas, was part of Assam’s aggressive anti-drug campaign, bringing an end to what Sarma termed a “planned Udta Assam party.”
Taking to his official X handle, Sarma reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eliminating drug-related activities. Addressing drug dealers directly, he warned, “Sorry to spoil your planned Udta Assam party!… So next time you think of drugs, think of Assam police first.”
The large-scale destruction of illegal poppy cultivation aligns with the Assam government’s broader mission to combat drug abuse and dismantle trafficking networks. Law enforcement agencies, in coordination with local security forces, continue to intensify efforts to ensure that drug-related operations do not take root in the state.
With Assam police leading the charge against narcotics, Sarma’s latest remarks send a clear message to those involved in the drug trade—there will be zero tolerance for illegal activities.
