Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to Visit Family of Army Jawan Who Died in Sikkim Flash Floods
Guwahati, 9th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit the grieving family of the late Indian Army jawan, Mitul Kalita, who tragically lost his life in the recent flash floods that struck Sikkim.
Mitul Kalita, a native of Assam, went missing in the aftermath of flash floods that swept through the Teesta river basin in Sikkim on October 5, 2023. The devastating floods claimed the lives of several individuals, including Indian Army personnel.
Mitul’s mortal remains were brought back to his hometown from Sikkim on a solemn journey. The grieving family performed his last rites at their residence in Anandabazar, Baksa district.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended his condolences and announced his intention to visit the bereaved family on October 12, 2023. The visit aims to offer support and solace to the family during this trying time.
Mitul Kalita, a skilled craftsman serving in the technical department of the Indian Army, was among the 22 soldiers who went missing during the flash flood disaster in Sikkim. He had been on official duty in Alipurduar when he was deployed to Sikkim. Tragically, he lost his life while serving the nation.
The visit by Assam’s Chief Minister reflects the state’s commitment to honoring and supporting the brave individuals who serve in the armed forces, even in times of adversity.
