Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits India-Bhutan Border, Reviews Key Infrastructure Project

Kokrajhar – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the India-Bhutan international border in Kokrajhar district on Saturday, assessing the progress of a crucial 35-kilometer road project connecting Bismuri, Ultapani, Sarlapara, and Sarpang in Bhutan.

The Rs 27 crore project is expected to enhance connectivity, bilateral trade, and regional cooperation between Assam and Bhutan.

During his visit, Sarma inspected the Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park area and engaged in discussions with local residents. He reassured the community of the state government’s commitment to strengthening regional infrastructure, boosting eco-tourism, and fostering socio-economic growth.

The visit coincided with the historic Assam Legislative Assembly session held for the first time outside Guwahati at the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Assembly in Kokrajhar.

Sarma emphasized that the Governor’s address and discussions on strengthening the administration of Sixth Schedule areas were key highlights of the Budget session.

“It will be a historic moment as it symbolizes the return of peace in the state and integration of all people. Kokrajhar, once a hub of Bodoland agitation, will host a special one-day Assembly session,” Sarma stated. He hailed the occasion as a milestone in his tenure, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their continued support in empowering the Bodo community.

In a social media post, PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling Bodo aspirations, recalling his previous visit to Kokrajhar and his admiration for the region’s vibrant culture. Amit Shah also extended his best wishes, describing the event as a key step toward preserving and promoting the rich Bodo heritage while accelerating their socio-economic development.

The remaining Budget session will resume in Guwahati and continue until March 25, with Finance Minister Ajanta Neog scheduled to present the annual budget on March 10.
