Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Votes for Different Symbol, Expects High Turnout in Final Phase

Guwahati, 7th May: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma surprised many today by revealing that he cast his vote for a symbol other than the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Lotus’ in the state’s elections, sparking speculation among political circles.

Addressing the media outside the polling station, Sarma explained, “I always vote for Bharatiya Janata Party’s symbol ‘Lotus,’ but this time I had to vote for another symbol.” His disclosure piqued interest and prompted discussions among political observers and the public.

Asserting the peaceful conduct of the elections, Sarma remarked, “Today is the last day of Assam election. We have completed peacefully. There was a very good turnout. Almost we have recorded 80 percent voting in the first two phases. Today as well, I’m sure of an 80 percent voting percentage.”

Highlighting the absence of violence or disturbances in the state, Sarma commended the enthusiastic participation of the people of Assam in the democratic process, emphasizing their commitment to the festival of democracy.

Looking beyond Assam, Sarma expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners in the Northeast region. “Northeast BJP and its alliance will yield good results,” he stated, attributing the anticipated success to the developmental initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the region.
