Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Vows Strong Action Against Following Kolkata Trainee Doctor’s Tragic Death

Guwahati, August 19 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to swiftly addressing crimes against women, following the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. In a media address, Sarma emphasized that Assam has a strong track record of taking immediate and decisive action against such heinous acts.

“In Assam, if anybody dares to commit such heinous acts, our actions are well documented over the past three years,” Sarma stated, highlighting the state’s zero-tolerance approach to crimes against women. He criticized opposition parties for their stance on the government’s strict measures, noting, “When we take quick actions to ensure justice, the opposition often takes issue with it.”

The Chief Minister also touched on the broader concerns of safety for medical professionals in Assam, stating, “We are taking multiple initiatives to ensure the security of our doctors in the state.” Sarma’s comments come in the wake of rising concerns about the safety of women and professionals in light of the Kolkata incident.

Expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, Sarma said, “We strongly condemn and criticize the incident that happened in Kolkata. We hope that the victim and her family get justice and that the accused must be punished.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks underscore the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to protect its citizens and ensure that justice is served swiftly in cases of violence against women.
