
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Vows to Bolster Sports Infrastructure in Barak Valley
Guwahati, August 25 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in the Barak Valley, emphasizing the state’s dedication to nurturing local talent and fostering athletic excellence.
During a visit to the region, CM Sarma reviewed several ongoing sports infrastructure projects, ensuring their timely completion. The projects under scrutiny included:
- Mini Stadium, Lakhimpur: Currently at 67% completion.
- Indoor Sports Stadium, Sibpur, Lakhimpur: Nearing completion with 99% work done.
- Mini Stadium, Dwarbond, Dholai: Progress stands at 53%.
These projects are scheduled to be completed and inaugurated by December 2024, marking a significant boost to the region’s sports facilities.
In addition to infrastructure development, CM Sarma extended his congratulations to Suraj Goala, an emerging badminton star from the region. Goala recently represented India at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia and secured a bronze medal at the FZ Forza Dutch International 2024. He is set to participate in the Indonesia Masters 2024 from August 27 to September 1, further showcasing his rising prominence on the international stage.
CM Sarma lauded Goala’s achievements, emphasizing the importance of supporting young athletes in their journey to success. His visit underscores the Assam government’s focus on creating a robust sports ecosystem in the Barak Valley, aimed at producing future champions.
