Assam CM Inaugurates Statue of Ahom General Bir Lachit Barphukan In Guwahati

Guwahati, 9th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the statue of Ahom General Bir Lachit Barphukan and the ‘Saheed Smarak’ on October 9, 2023, at Bir Lachit Barphukan Park in Narangi Military Station. This event celebrated the rich history and cultural heritage of Assam and paid homage to the legendary hero, Bir Lachit Barphukan, known for his significant contributions to the Ahom Dynasty.

The statue unveiling ceremony was a solemn occasion where visitors and dignitaries honored the memory of General Bir Lachit Barphukan and remembered his remarkable achievements. The park also received the ‘Saheed Samarak,’ a tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The event featured scintillating performances, including the state song of Assam and a drama depicting the life and accomplishments of General Bir Lachit Barphukan. These cultural presentations were enthusiastically presented by the Assam State Cultural Department.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Lieutenant General RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, Major General PS Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area, Major General RK Jha, AVSM (Retd), as well as historians, Armed Forces personnel, and NCC cadets.

The inauguration of the statue and ‘Saheed Smarak’ marked a significant moment in Assam’s history, commemorating the legacy of General Bir Lachit Barphukan and honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s brave soldiers.
