Assam CM Inspects Tiwa Cultural Centre Construction, Extends Support to Boat Capsize Victims

Nagaon, 14th July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a thorough site visit to Raha in Nagaon district on July 13 to oversee the ongoing construction of a dedicated tourist centre honoring Tiwa King Jongal Balahu. The ambitious Rs 50 crore project aims to showcase Tiwa art and cultural heritage through various amenities such as themed entry gates, cycle tracks, a museum, and a convention centre.

During his inspection, Sarma emphasized the importance of timely project completion while maintaining stringent quality standards. The cultural centre is poised to become a significant attraction, highlighting the rich cultural legacy of the Tiwa community.

Accompanying the Chief Minister were dignitaries including Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, local MLAs, and representatives from the Tiwa Autonomous Council, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the project.

In a separate event during the visit, Sarma extended his condolences to the families affected by a recent boat capsize incident at Simlitola in the Rongjui area. The tragic accident, which occurred recently, claimed the lives of four individuals, with one person still missing.

In response to the tragedy, Sarma announced that the state government has provided an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to each victim’s next of kin. He further assured that additional measures are being explored to extend support to the affected families during this difficult time, reflecting the government’s commitment to compassionate governance.
