Assam CM Lauds Modi’s PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Guwahati, 19th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, PM Surya Ghar, aimed at empowering families through sustainable energy use.
Expressing his admiration for the project, Sarma emphasized its potential to revolutionize India’s energy landscape and contribute to a greener future.
Taking to his social media handle, Sarma lauded PM Modi’s leadership, highlighting the transformative impact of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to illuminate 1 crore households across India, providing up to 300 units of free electricity each month.
With an investment exceeding Rs 75,000 crores, the scheme is not just about illumination but also represents a significant stride towards sustainable energy, promising reduced power bills, employment opportunities, and economic empowerment for families.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, offering incentives of up to Rs. 78,000, seeks to promote rooftop solar installations, particularly targeting homes consuming over 300 units a month and systems larger than 3 KW. Eligible households can avail a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per KW for solar panels up to 2 KW and Rs 18,000 per KW for panels up to 3 KW. Interested applicants can register online and apply for installation, awaiting feasibility approval from the distribution company (DISCOM) before installation.
The scheme aims to supply 300 units of free energy per month to one crore families, with subsidies varying based on the installed solar panel capacity. Homeowners unable to pay the outstanding balance may apply for a bank loan. Installation of rooftop solar PV systems is feasible on any roof with sufficient load capacity, with a 1 kW solar power plant capable of producing 4 to 5.5 units in a day under clear, bright conditions.
