Assam CM Launches Development Initiatives, Hails State as Model of Progress

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 13 described the state as a model of development in India, attributing its progress to “transparent and efficient” governance.

Speaking at a public event in Jorhat, Sarma outlined his government’s achievements over the past three years, emphasizing advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

The event was part of the ‘12 Days of Development’ programme, a series of state-wide initiatives aimed at fostering growth. Sarma highlighted that transparency and merit-based recruitment had become hallmarks of his administration, enabling even underprivileged families to access government jobs.

Among the key initiatives unveiled were three new education schemes designed to benefit students, alongside measures from other departments projected to positively impact over 10 lakh families. Sarma launched the ceremonial distribution of ‘no dues certificates’ under the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme, benefiting borrowers in the ‘Category-III, Phase-II’ segment with a financial allocation of ₹223.30 crore.

Additionally, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department disbursed ₹35.38 crore to 6,86,487 families, while seed capital worth ₹21.90 crore was distributed to 6,490 members of Self-Help Groups under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Jorhat Urban Water Supply Scheme under the Drink from Tap (DFT) project. With a financial outlay of ₹220 crore, the project aims to provide clean and uninterrupted drinking water to 14,700 households in the district by December 2026.

Sarma reiterated his government’s commitment to creating a “new Assam,” asserting that these initiatives would have a transformative impact on millions of lives across the state.
