Assam CM Leads Cycle Rally to Mark World Bicycle Day
Guwahati, 3rd June: In an effort to promote fitness and environmental awareness, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a cycle rally in Guwahati on June 3, celebrating World Bicycle Day. The event saw a substantial turnout, with spectators lining the streets to watch the Chief Minister pedal through the city.
The rally highlighted Sarma’s commitment to health and environmental sustainability, as enthusiastic residents greeted him warmly, showering him with flowers as he cycled by, showcasing public support for the initiative.
Adding to the day’s events, Assam’s Director General of Police, GP Singh, shared his cycling experience on Twitter. “In consonance with World Cycling Day and with the aim to promote fitness and environmental awareness, I participated in an 18 KM long bicycle rally organized in Guwahati along with colleagues from @assampolice and members of civil society,” Singh tweeted.
Singh also noted the rally’s relevance to personal fitness, mentioning, “With BMI 2024 about 70 days away, it was also a good opportunity to shape up,” referring to the upcoming Bharatiya Mahotsav International (BMI) 2024, a prestigious cultural event set to take place in Assam.
The cycle rally underscored the state’s commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle and environmental consciousness among its residents.
