Assam CM: Maligaon Flyover To Be Ready Before Next Bohag Bihu

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmaexpressed optimism on Friday that he will be able to officially inaugurate the Maligoan flyover for commuters after “Bohag Bihu” next year.

The Assam Chief Minister was addressing at the flyover’s opening ceremony in Arya Nagar near Sarabbhati, which was attended by the general public today.

CM Sarma said, “The Maligoan overpass is about four kilometres long. We intend to make it accessible to the general public after Bohag Bihu.”

The CM added that the Guwahati flyover at Zoo Road, which is now under development, will be finished before the Bohag Bihu in 2024.

He further said, “We have some major ideas. I want to construct a flyover that will stretch six kilometres from Handique College to Bamunimaidam. The construction won’t start until the flyovers over Maligaon and Zoo Road are finished.”

Elucidating on his plans further, CM Sarma said, “A flyover will be constructed in front of Cycle Factory. Also, the bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will be completed within a year-and-a-half.”

“The Palasbari to Suwalkuchi flyover will be built starting in 2019. Additionally, a flyover will appear at Baihata Chariali. Additionally, construction of the Narangi to Kuruwa flyover would start soon, he said.

The Assam Chief Minister also presented city plans for a second ropeway. We intend to construct a ropeway connecting Khanapara with the airport in Borjhar, he said.

CM Sarma also said that the Assam government has given the populace 3,000 water connections. He said, “We are planning to increase the number to 10 thousand this year.”

“With the aid of JICA, we will provide water connections in every home by 2023. We hope to supply water through both of the plans by 2024,” he said.

The CM further added, “By 2024, two medical colleges in Guwahati will be available to the public. This year, the Fancy Bazar Botanical Garden will be opened.”

All of the lands owned by government departments will soon be released and made available for other uses, according to plans.

He said, “We have started works for demolishing old police stations and constructing new ones. I want make Guwahati the gateway to South Asia. We have made it easier for anyone buying land in Guwahati. They will not have to run from office to office.”

The CM then exhorted all state ministers to clean up all corrupt behaviour inside the Guwahati Municipal Committee (GMC). He said that the government will only then be accepted by the people.

Every ward in Guwahati will receive Rs 10 crores for development, he declared. Certain locations’ names must be altered to better reflect Guwahati.

CM Sarma also demanded a halt to the tradition of making donations as part of celebrations known as “Chanda.” Small and large firms shouldn’t be pestered for donations, he said. We should work to end the practise of collecting donations for pujas.

It should be noted that the Assam Chief Minister officially opened the two-lane flyover at Arya Nagar earlier in the day.

A flyover has been built next to Arya Vidyapeeth College to make it easier for commuters to go through traffic.

The 790 metre long flyover’s construction cost came to just about Rs 150 crores.

The foundation stone of the flyover was laid on February 26, 2021, just before the 2021 Assembly elections. The flyover was supposed to be finished in 30 months. The flyover was supposed to be finished by August 2023, however it took only 20 months to complete.
