Assam CM Marks International Day Against Drug Abuse with Strong Commitment

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with a powerful message and symbolic action. Sharing an old video on social media, Sarma was seen driving a JCB over thousands of seized drug bottles, underscoring the state’s unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace.

In his statement, Chief Minister Sarma reiterated Assam’s relentless efforts in the war against drugs, emphasizing the significant strides made in intercepting and seizing narcotics worth over Rs 2,100 crore. He affirmed, “Assam has been waging a war against drugs, striking at this menace at regular intervals. Our goal is to create a Drug-Free Assam, ensuring our children are safeguarded from the perils of narcotics and can lead healthy lives. On this International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we reaffirm our commitment to the larger vision of a Drug-Free Bharat!”

Under Sarma’s leadership, Assam has intensified anti-drug operations, resulting in numerous arrests and substantial seizures. The state government employs a comprehensive strategy encompassing awareness campaigns, rehabilitation initiatives, and stringent law enforcement measures to curb drug trafficking.

The symbolic act of crushing drug bottles with heavy machinery symbolizes the government’s resolute stance and showcases the success of its anti-drug efforts. Sarma’s initiative received widespread appreciation on social media, highlighting public support for Assam’s stringent measures against narcotics.
