Assam CM Meets Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Chouhan

Guwahati, 7 June: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who arrived in Delhi on Tuesday on a two-day visit met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the wedding ceremony of union minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s daughter in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday night.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will return to Delhi on Wednesday and spend some time in Delhi and fly to Guwahati in the night. It is worth mentioning that before coming to Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Tuesday.

The meeting was also attended by Minister Ashok Singhal who is in charge of the constituency reconstitution process. During the nearly half an hour meeting held at the Union Home Ministry in North Block, Chief Minister is learnt to have discussed with Amit Shah how important it is to complete the reconstitution of the constituency before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

It is to be noted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma did not react to the meeting. He is also camping in New Delhi for work related to community restructuring.

BJP government at the Centre wants to complete the process of redrawing the constituencies in Assam before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. For this, the Election Commission had issued a notification on December 27 last year. It may be noted that on the request of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, the Election Commission has already completed the preliminary work of the entire process that the opposition parties in the state are unhappy with the constituency redrawing process and several parties have opposed.
