Assam CM Orders Police Probe into Alleged Attack on Jairam Ramesh’s vehicle
Guwahati, 21st January: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the police to investigate the reported assault on Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s car in the state’s Sonitpur district.
Using social media platform X, CM Sarma directed Assam Police DGP GP Singh to register a case and look into the allegations. Sharing Jairam Ramesh’s X post, where the Congress leader made the accusations, CM Sarma stated, “Please register a case and inquire into the allegations @gpsinghips @DGPAssamPolice.”
Jairam Ramesh had earlier alleged that his vehicle was attacked by a group of BJP workers in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
Through a video posted on social media platform X, Ramesh claimed the incident occurred in Jamugurihat, with BJP workers allegedly tearing off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra sticker from the windshield, throwing water at the car, and shouting slogans. Despite the confrontation, Ramesh mentioned, “We kept our composure, waved to the hooligans, and sped away.”
The shared video depicted Ramesh’s car being blocked by a group of men, some holding BJP flags, as he waved at the crowd while the car tried to maneuver through.
Ramesh accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of orchestrating the incident, asserting, “This is undoubtedly the Assam CM @himantabiswa’s doing. We are not intimidated and will soldier on.”
