Assam CM pays tribute to the victims of October 2008 serial blast
Guwahati, 30th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the victims of the 2008 serial blasts that shook the state on October 30.
In a post on X platform, CM Sarma described the incident as a ‘dark day’ in Assam’s history, acknowledging the loss of innocent lives to insurgent activities. He extended condolences to the victims and underscored the government’s commitment to fighting insurgency to maintain peace in Assam.
CM Sarma shared on X platform, “October 30, 2008, is a dark day in the history of Assam. On that day many innocent people lost their lives in the clutches of insurgents. Our brothers and sisters were left with deep scars for life. On this cursed day, we pay tribute to everyone who lost their lives prematurely and express our deepest condolences to everyone who was injured.” (translated from Assamese).
He emphasized the necessity of a united effort against insurgency to build a developed and harmonious Assam, assuring that the government is resolute in its role to address this challenge.
The 2008 blast resulted in 80 fatalities and more than 400 individuals living with permanent physical disabilities.
These tragic incidents occurred across several locations, including Ganeshguri, Panbazaar, Kachari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon. Ranjan Daimary, the founder of the now-defunct National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), orchestrated these attacks.
Daimary, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, has been serving his sentence since 2019.
