Assam CM plans to breed only cows through AI and not bulls
Guwahati: With discussions relating to the new Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 turning more into a controversy, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that in the coming 20 years through artificial insemination only cows will remain as a breed and there will be no bulls.
The Chief Minister speaking at the Assam Legislative Assembly said that certain procedures will be undertaken in the state through artificial insemination where the government will be able to reproduce only females from cows instead of males.
Sarma said that in today’s world, cows are more productive than bulls and so insemination will help the government in bringing in more cows. The CM further added that if things are worked according to the plan, in the next 20 years Assam will have only cows as a single breed and there will be no bulls.
The Chief Minister also claimed that even in old testaments and scriptures, the importance of cows has been highlighted and not bulls. So, the government has now planned to give utmost importance to cows and products (excluding meat) related to cows.
He also added that more gaushalas (cow shelters) will be set up in the state in order to preserve cows in the state.
