Assam CM Praises Power Department for Swift Restoration Amid Cyclone Remal’s Aftermath

Guwahati, May 29, 2024 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the power department for their rapid efforts in restoring power supply across Guwahati and other regions of the state, following the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Remal.

Expressing his appreciation on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Sarma wrote, “My thanks to @apdclsocial for swiftly restoring power supply in Guwahati and across Assam (excluding some areas in Golaghat) despite challenges from Cyclone Remal. The team’s dedication amidst fallen trees, and damaged transformers and power lines showcases a new work culture in Assam.”

Cyclone Remal brought widespread destruction to Assam, causing significant disruptions in power supply and infrastructure. In Guwahati’s Pub Sarania area, two electric poles collapsed on Monday night, resulting in a power outage that has yet to be fully resolved. Residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for the delay in addressing the issue.

While most parts of Guwahati have seen power restored, Pub Sarania remains without electricity, highlighting the challenges faced by the power department in certain areas.

The cyclone’s impact extended beyond Guwahati, with Nagaon district witnessing uprooted trees and damaged APDCL infrastructure. Authorities are contemplating school closures due to safety concerns and reports of house damage.

Despite these challenges, the swift restoration efforts by APDCL in many affected areas reflect a commitment to overcoming obstacles and ensuring essential services are promptly reinstated, earning praise from the highest levels of state leadership.
