Assam CM receives Certificate of World Record for 42 lakh essays on Bir Lachit Borphukan

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been awarded a Certificate of World Record for having the most essays written about one individual. He received the certificate from Guinness World Records Ltd, UK representatives, marking the 400th anniversary of the great Ahom general Lachit Borphukan’s birth.

The record-breaking feat saw 42 lakh essays written on Lachit Borphukan, a significant figure in Assam’s history. The programme was introduced in February 2022 as part of a yearlong festival in Guwahati honouring the legendary Ahom general that was inaugurated by former President Ramnath Kovind.

The programme aimed to celebrate Lachit Borphukan’s samadhi and maintain Assamese cultural tradition. A technical committee is in charge of the project, which is now casting the 150-foot-tall bronze statue of Lachit Borphukan. Within a year, the statue should be completed.

Furthermore, the administration announced an essay-writing programme in November to encourage people to express their opinions on Lachit Borphukan. 42 lakh essays were written as part of the programme, which attracted participants from all around the nation and state.

The CM is delighted to notify everyone in the state and the nation that a photo album of handwritten notes will be made available to them. This initiative will encourage future generations to learn about Assam’s rich history and preserve Lachit Borphukan’s legacy.

With the CM’s and his government’s backing, the people of Assam made a tremendous accomplishment that would live on in history and serve as an example for future generations to celebrate their cultural heritage.
