Assam CM requests Mamata Banerjee to Investigate into IIT Kharagpur student death

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked his colleague in West Bengal Mamata Banerjee to launch a thorough probe into the death of an Assam student at IIT Kharagpur on Thursday.

Faizan Ahmed, a third-year mechanical engineering student of IIT Kharagpur, was found dead in his hostel room on October 14. Ahmed was a native of the Tinsukia district of the state.

His parents on observing his body filed a case with the local police in Kharagpur requesting the superintending of police, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal and inspector-in-charge of Kharagpur (Town) police station for an investigation.

As a result, Sarma wrote Mamata Banerjee a letter asking for her help in conducting a comprehensive investigation to find the truth behind the loss of the talented student, whose untimely passing has sparked intense grief throughout the state.
