Assam CM Reviews Key Welfare and Investment Initiatives, Unveils New Push for Police Promotions and Agri Exports

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a series of high-level meetings on Friday, addressing multiple governance and developmental priorities spanning police welfare, social support schemes, capital investment projects, and the state’s growing agricultural export footprint. The marathon review sessions reflected the government’s renewed focus on inclusive growth and public service delivery across Assam.

Taking to his official X handle, CM Sarma announced a key reform under the Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme that will benefit the Assam Police. The model aims to institutionalise time-bound promotions from the rank of Constable to Havildar, ensuring hardworking personnel are duly recognised and rewarded for their service. This move is set to boost morale within the police force and enhance administrative efficiency.

The Chief Minister also conducted an extensive review of the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme, Assam’s flagship direct benefit transfer programme targeting economically weaker households, especially women. He assessed district and Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC)-wise progress and directed officials to plug any gaps in beneficiary inclusion. Sarma reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible recipient is left behind under the welfare initiative.

In addition to social welfare, the Chief Minister turned his attention to capital investment infrastructure. He evaluated the progress of ongoing projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment programme, with an eye on expediting execution and enhancing economic impact at the grassroots level.

A significant part of the day’s discussions also centred on Assam’s agricultural transformation. CM Sarma praised the progress of the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART), which has played a pivotal role in taking the state’s agri-products to international markets. He announced the upcoming launch of APART 2, a more robust phase of the initiative that will align with the One District One Product (ODOP) strategy to generate cohesive development and amplify farmer incomes.

The Chief Minister’s day-long policy push signals the government’s intent to not only accelerate development but also deepen the reach of public schemes and position Assam as a rising agri-export hub on the global stage.
