Assam CM Reviews Progress of Cricket Stadium and Swimming Pool Construction
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress of the cricket stadium and swimming pool construction at Amingaon, Guwahati, on Saturday. The state government is enhancing sports infrastructure to support athletes and host national and international sporting events.
The Amingaon cricket stadium, with a seating capacity of 20,000, is being developed to host One Day Internationals, T20 matches, and other sporting events. The construction is expected to be completed by early 2026. The stadium will have essential infrastructure such as alternative access routes, adequate parking facilities, and other amenities.
The Chief Minister mentioned plans to redevelop the Nehru Stadium into a comprehensive sports facility suitable for national and international competitions. Additionally, a new stadium is planned to be built at Chandrapur in Guwahati. These initiatives aim to position Assam as a hub for sporting excellence.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the construction of the swimming pool at Amingaon will be completed soon. The pool is part of the state’s efforts to develop modern training facilities for athletes.
The state government is working to create an environment conducive to sporting excellence, assisting emerging athletes from both urban and rural areas. The construction of the cricket stadium and swimming pool is part of these efforts.
During his visit, the Chief Minister attended a training session at the National Center of Excellence for Badminton and interacted with coaches. He was accompanied by senior officials from the departments concerned, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting sports in the state.
