Assam CM Sarma: All Demolished Madrasas Were Al-Qaeda Offices

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Wednesday that all of the demolished madrasas were now being used as Al-Qaeda offices rather than as madrasas.

CM Sarma said, “All of the razed madrasas were actually Al Qaeda offices. 1-2 were demolished, and now others will be demolished by members of the public. The Muslim community is en route to destroy, claiming that they do not want a madrasa where Al-operations Qaeda’s are carried out. That alters the character of the madrasa.”

Notably, residents of the Goalpara district decided to destroy another madrasa on their own. They said that two Bangladeshi nationals engaged in terrorist operations on the property.

The Goalpara Superintendent of Police VV Rakesh Reddy said, “Locals took the initiative to demolish a madrasa. There was no involvement of the government. They were shocked to learn that the jihadi who was apprehended was a madrasa teacher. People have made it very clear that they oppose jihadi operations.”

As many as four madrasas have been destroyed in the recent months, with the first three being taken down by state government officials.
