Assam CM Sarma Asks ULFA (I) Chief Paresh Baruah to Join Peace Process
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a plea to Ulfa (I) chief Paresh Baruah on Monday to take part in the peace process for the benefit of Assam’s advancement.
Speaking at a gathering where the state government provided one-time cash help to former members of various militant organisations, CM Sarma expressed his wish that the peace process would advance one day like today (I). I once again make the case to Paresh Baruah that the way to rebuild Assam and the larger Assamese society is not through bloodshed, but rather through conversation and peace.
Sarma added in his appeal to Baruah, “We can solve all our problems through dialogues.”
He added that Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been removed from 65% of the state geographical area with the return of peace and the state government is considering withdrawing the act from Karbi Anglong district and Lakhipur sub-division in Cachar district.
