Assam CM Sarma Commences Four-Day Dibrugarh Visit Amidst Housing Initiative Rollout

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma touched down in Dibrugarh today, marking the beginning of a four-day official engagement that extends through March 23rd. The day’s agenda includes a pivotal cabinet meeting scheduled for 4:00 PM, followed by a review session with party Members of the Legislative Assembly.

This Dibrugarh visit follows closely on the heels of the Chief Minister’s significant housing initiative launch. Just yesterday, Sarma inaugurated the distribution of approximately 390,000 sanction letters under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme. The symbolic gesture of personally handing over letters to ten beneficiaries took place at a ceremony in Rampur, Palashbhari, located within the Kamrup district.

Official sources confirm that beneficiaries will receive an initial disbursement of Rs 37,500, directly credited to their respective bank accounts. During the Rampur ceremony, Sarma underscored the state government’s unwavering dedication to realizing the goal of “Housing for all.”

“With the issuance of these PMAY-G sanction letters, the State government has taken a definitive stride towards ensuring the ‘Housing for all’ vision becomes a tangible reality,” Sarma articulated. “Our objective is to fulfill the target of constructing 2.6 million PMAY houses and to additionally provision for 1.5 million more homes, thereby guaranteeing that every impoverished individual in Assam possesses their own permanent dwelling.”

Earlier in the week, the Chief Minister laid the cornerstone for a 50-bed critical care block at SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar. This Rs 24 crore project will encompass five floors, spanning 6,335 square meters, and will feature an Intensive Care Unit, an operation theatre, isolation wards, and a dedicated pediatric care unit. During the same Silchar visit, Sarma also initiated the construction of a new Circuit House.
