Assam CM says ‘Have No Role in VP Polls’, after Margaret Alva Seeks Support
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday acknowledged speaking with Vice Presidential candidate for the Opposition, Margaret Alva, but insisted that as he is not a member of the electoral college, he has no role in the race.
This occurred after Margaret Alva contacted the chief ministers of several states as part of her effort to win support for the polls. She spoke with the chief ministers of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, and Assam in addition to Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
Informing this CM Sarma took to titter and wrote, “Smt. @alva_margaret spoke to me this morning. I politely told her that I’m not a member of the electoral college. As such I have no role in the election of Vice President of India.”

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) resolved to abstain from voting in the vice-presidential elections just days before to this incident.
Vice presidential candidate Margaret Alva on Sunday stated that she would request support from both Jagat Prakash Nadda, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the vice-presidential election scheduled for August 6, incumbent Congress leader and former Union minister Margaret Alva will run against NDA contender Jagdeep Dhankhar.
